Dhū al Qa’dah 29, 1441

July 21, 2020

Al salāmu ‘alaikum wa rahmatullāh

I hope this message finds you and your loved ones in the best of health and īmān. On behalf of the Board of Religious Services of the BC Muslim Association, I am pleased to inform you that the crescent of Dhū al Hijjah has been sighted in multiple locations across the globe. The crescent was also sighted by our local Imams Shujaath Ali, Abdurrahman Khan, and Omar al Ani in Delta BC. As per our Verified Moonsighting Policy, the month Dhū al Hijjah will commence on Wednesday, July 22, 2020. A few important dates are mentioned below.

  • 1.      The day of ‘Arafah (9th of Dhū al Hijjah) will be on Thursday, July 30, 2020.
  • 2.      The day of Eid al Adhā will be on Friday, July 31, 2020.
  • 3.      The days of Tashrīq (11th, 12th, and 13th of Dhū al Hijjah) will be on August 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.

The first 10 days of Dhū al Hijjah mark a blessed time of year for Muslims. I encourage you to engage in acts of obedience and abstain from vice. It is also recommended to fast on the day of ‘Arafah.

Due to the restrictions imposed by the Provincial health authorities, our masājid will have a limited congregation for Eid salāh. Please check with your local masjid regarding registration protocols if you would like to attend.

May Allah shower us with His mercy during these blessed days. May He accept our worship and deliver us from this pandemic safely and in the best of health. Āmīn
